May was the month of field trips at my work. Field trips are always great because I've been able to go to so many different places that I've never been to. They can be crazy and stressful as well since it's a lot of kids and organizing everyone. I got the opportunity to go to Playland with the grade 6 and 7 students. I was excited to go. Sadly on the day we were scheduled to go it started pouring rain. It was so nice the day before and all the days after but our day was cold and rainy. We got there and grabbed a table to keep all our stuff at. I was partnered with 3 students and we set off for the rides! I only got to go on a couple of rides and then switched off with another teacher to eat lunch and then we we're trying to wrangle all the students back together to head back to school. Even though it was cold and rainy, the students had so much fun and that's what really matters. Would I go back to Playland? Maybe if it was a quiet day and I didn't have to stand in line for ever. It turns out I don't love rides as much as I used to. Maybe it's because I haven't been on any roller coasters or other rides in so long. The next field trip was to Science World. Another place I had yet to visit since moving here. This was a school wide field trip so everyone came. I was placed into a kindergarten class and then given a group of 3 boys to take through the place. It was so much fun! There are so many areas to explore and the boys I was with were pretty good about taking turns and all going together to things. We got to see the Great Bear Forest movie in the giant theatre that made me feel sick. Think IMAX but bigger and the screen is curved. I mostly just listened because it was hard to see all the screen at the same time. There is a little playground outside and we spent some time out there before having to load up and head back to the school. I would love to go back to Science World on my own and explore. There was so much I wasn't able to see or do with the school but it was a great day!
I am nearing the end of my time at this school and it is kind of sad after meeting so many amazing students and building relationships with them. I have enjoyed it so much and it has shown me that this is really something I want to do. I have loved my job in the treatment centre but it is time for me to move on and explore new career options. I feel so fortunate that I got this experience and I am hopeful for my practicum in September. I got my placement all set up and can't wait to start. Though I am really looking forward to having July and August off!!
I hope everyone has a wonderful day!!
